Scaling The Amber Parenting Method

Katherine Elizabeth is a highly experienced parenting coach whose unique philosophy and approach has helped 500+ families across the world create a healthier adult-child dynamic in their homes. Her clients are parents who are struggling with demanding children and find themselves firefighting difficult behaviour instead of being able to just enjoy being parents.

Katherine's core service is a three-day home visit where she observes family interactions and coaches the parents in her "Amber Parenting" method. She has an excellent success rate, even in very difficult situations, and her work not only creates calmer, happier homes, but more confident, self-sufficient children.

However, successful though Katherine's approach is, her impact had become limited by her own availability since she was often booked up six months in advance. As the only person who could confidently deliver the method, she had become the primary bottleneck in her own business.

At the same time, with childhood anxiety on the rise and increasing numbers of parents and schools reporting challenging behaviour, it was clear her techniques were needed on a much larger scale. She needed a strategy to expand her impact beyond the results she was able to achieve on her own. The first phase was training a small group of associate coaches to deliver her signature three-day intervention.

The problem was, she'd never tried to train other people in her approach, and knew that much of what she did was instinctive rather than prescriptive. Even the core building blocks of her method, refined over several years, had never been formally written down.

That’s when Katherine brought me in to help translate her instinctive expertise into a structured training syllabus.

To get Katherine’s extensive expertise out of her head and into a structured format others could understand, here's the process I followed:

1) Surfacing Know-How via In-Depth Interviews

First, I conducted over 20 deep-dive "discovery" interviews to draw out the various aspects of Katherine's proven working method. This was a highly collaborative, two-way process, where my role wasn't simply about capturing information, but actively translating it into a teachable framework. This often meant digging deeper, challenging inconsistencies and suggesting ways to best represent Katherine’s key insights, processes and philosophies.

2) Distilling Key Principles and Practices

In parallel, I began building the Amber Parenting method bible. This became a comprehensive, 10,000+ word intellectual asset capturing Katherine's core principles and practices as clearly and comprehensively as possible. At regular intervals I would share the new or updated sections to get her feedback, refining it as necessary until we had a "version one" we were both happy with.

3) Building the Training Syllabus and Content

The method bible became the basis for a three-day, in-person training programme for teaching the Amber Parenting Method to the first wave of associate coaches. I designed the syllabus and created a comprehensive deck of over 250 training slides, paced for live instruction and including numerous additional examples and scenarios for discussion.

The training was a resounding success and equipped the first six associate coaches with the tools to deliver the Amber Parenting Method. It also provided us with numerous insights into how to improve the programme for its next batch of coaching trainees.

Afterwards, the additional details that had surfaced during the training development were fed back into the bible to ensure it remained the definitive "source of truth" for the core method (apart from Katherine, of course!).

By turning her instinctive habits into structured assets, we have successfully captured Katherine’s practical know-how so that others can learn and deliver it.

As a result, the business has multiplied its capacity to help struggling families, and reduced its day-to-day dependency on the founder.
